Timeline[edit | edit source]
- December 25, 1773 – Early on Christmas Day, Governor Guy Carleton is killed in his home after a brief scuffle. Local authorities believe it to be a botched burglary, however the British assume it was a Canadien nationalist.
- 1774 – Intolerable Acts include all of British North America. Outrage from Montreal to Savannah.
- 1775 – American Revolutionary War begins. Quebec, given their linguistic and cultural differences, do not initially join the uprisings. Some partisans take up arms after Lexington and Concord. Battle of Quebec ends in American victory thanks to Canadien saboteurs.
- 1776 – Canadien delegates sent to Philadelphia and armies raised in Quebec. The Thirteen Colonies unanimously declare independence. One week of later, Quebecois delegates proclaim their independence from Great Britain.
- 1777 – General Washington killed at the Battle of Brandywine. Artemas Ward takes his place.
- 1781 – American Revolutionary War ends with the Siege of Yorktown. With growing unpopularity at home, the British decide not to push the war any longer.
- 1783 – Treaty of Paris is ratified. The United States of America gains much of what was British North America. The British relinquish control of the Canadas and Rupert's Land (without a direct way to administer it, the British hand it over as its considered useless to them). Great Britain holds onto Newfoundland and the Bahamas. Spain gains control of the Floridas.
- 1789 – Artemas Ward inaugurated as the 1st President of the United States. French Revolution begins.
- 1790 – Quebec ratifies the constitution, ending the Quebec Republic and integrating itself into the United States.
- 1792 – French Revolutionary War begins. Ward offers trinket support to France, however does not have much to offer due to a lack of military power. Naval skirmishes begin between British and American vessels. Artemas Ward reelected unanimously.
- 1799 – Napoleon Bonaparte stabbed to death on 19 Brumaire. Upon hearing this news, riots break out in Paris. Two days later, General Victor Moreau assembles his men and march on Paris. In an impassioned speech to Parisians, Moreau pledges to avenge Bonaparte. Moreau's soldiers storm the Council of Five Hundred and remove all members at gun point. Three Days' Anarchy ends with Moreau as head of state.
- 1800 – President Jefferson is reelected for a second term. He is the first president to be inaugurated in the newly completed Liberty, D.C.
- 1802 – French Revolutionary War concludes. First French constitution takes effect.
- 1803 – Grand Consul Victor Moreau becomes President of France by direct election. Presidents elected on six year terms.
- 1804 – James Madison becomes 3rd President of the United States.
- 1808 – West Florida declares independence from Spain, joins United States. Spain gives U.S. an ultimatum to vacate West Florida, Americans refuse. Andrew Jackson seizes East Florida, Spain repels American offensive into New Orleans. President Jay negotiates naval alliance between Britain and America. Royal Navy engage Spanish in the Caribbean.
- 1809 – Facing revolts in Latin America and skirmishes with Royal Navy, Spain cedes both Floridas and the Louisiana territory to the Americans. Francisco de Miranda marches on Caracus, proclaims independence of Venezuela.
- 1810 – Britain recognizes independence of Venezuela, declares war on Spain. United States recognizes Venezuelan independence, respects truce with Spain. British forces take Cuba and Puerto Rico (later known as Boricua). Uprisings intensify across all of Spanish-America. Royal Navy blockades all Spanish ports across the Americas, ships arms to rebels.
- 1814 – Simon Bolivar attempts to seize power from Miranda, promptly executed by latter.
- 1818 – Treaty of London ratified. Spain relinquishes all claims over the Americas. Britain annexes Cuba and Puerto Rico, renames the latter "Boricua." Francisco de Miranda establishes the United States of New Granada, hoping to unite the rest of Latin America.
- 1830 – General Lopez de Santa Anna overthrows the government of President Agustin de Iturbide. Santa Anna executes Iturbide and enforces the ban on slavery in Texas, ends Mexican-American Alliance.
- 1833 – The Continental War begins. France, Spain, and Russia face Austria, Britain, and Prussia. Americans pledge neutrality, however public opinion favors the Entente.
- 1835 – Republic of Texas declares independence, recognized by United States. Mexico promises war if Americans annex Texas.
- 1838 – Continental War ends in tacit Anti-Entente victory. The Oranges are restored to the throne in the Kingdom of Holland. Italy reorganized into three states: Cisalpina (north, French client), Naples-Sicily (south, monarchist), and the Papal States (central, self-explanatory). Britain takes Indonesia from France, along with a handful of islands in the Caribbean and port cities in India. France maintains control of her Rhine borders. Spain fails to annex Gibraltar. Russia annexes Finland from Sweden. Nationalist fervor grows in the German and Italian states.
- 1841 – President James Buchanan annexes Texas. Mexico declares war on the United States. California declares independence from Mexico.
- 1843 – Mexican–American War ends in massive American victory. Indefinite occupation of Mexico begins. Debate is held in Congress regarding the fate of Mexico.
- 1845 – President Winfield Scott (pro-annexation) inaugurated. Mexico reorganized as American territory.
- 1854 – William Walker filibusters Central America, heavily funded by industrialists and plantation owners. Republic of Central America established.
- 1860 – Federalist Abraham Lincoln elected President. South Carolina secedes from Union.
- 1861 – Civil war begins. Arkansas, East Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Florida, and Yucatan create the Confederate States of America. The Confederacy also claims the Sonora and Durango territories. Central America joins in favor of the Confederacy. Both sides try to conscript Mexicans into their armies.
- 1866 – The Union prevails over the Confederacy. General Grant accepts General Lee's surrender. President Lincoln begins Reconstruction of the former Confederacy and the Mexican territories.
