The Mexica Empire is a hegemony which consists of territories occupied by the Kingdom of Mexico.

Arrival to Anahuac (Valley of Mexico)[edit | edit source]

During the 10th century, the Toltecs, Tenapecs and other peoples founded several city-states or altepetl Anahuac, with the most powerful being Culhuacan and Azcapotzalco around the shores Lake Texoco. Then by the mid-13th century, the Nahua peoples who decendend from the Chichemec, including the Mexica, settled in the city of Culhuacan where they assimilated into the cultrue. The Mexica later get expelled after sacrificing a Culhuacan princess, and developed an artificial island that later became Tenochtitlan. The Mexica also settled into another island called Tlatelolco, which was later politically integrated into Tenochtitlan.

Mexica-Spanish War[edit | edit source]

Conquistador Hernan Cortez arrives at the Yocatlan (Yucatan) peninsula in March 4, 1519 (Xiuhpohualli: 9-Cuauhuitlehua (I);Tonalpohualli: day sign 8-Ehecatl of the solar year 1-Acatl;Maya long count: 11.14.19.0.2) without permission from the [[Viceroy of New Spain (Mexica Victory over Tenochtitlan)|Viceroyal of New Spain) with an army of 500 men and 13 horses. There, they shortly founded the city of Veracruz on April 22, 1519 (Xiuhpohualli: 18-Tozoztontli (III);Tonalpohualli: day sign 5-Ozomahtli of the solar year 1-Acatl;Maya long count: 11.14.19.2.11).
